Help from Local Agencies

If you or a loved one find yourself in need of resources, AM 860 has partnered with local agencies that want to help! 

Local Help Agencies

  1. The Salvation Army, (304) 253-9541: Provides food, clothing and help with utilities. Operating hours: Mon-Fri, 9am-12pm,1pm-2pm (Thrift Shop, ) 
  2. Helping Hands Community Resource Center, 253-3467 (Go to DHHR first) Provides a food box once per month – amount depends on family size. Also provides clothing, help with utilities and limited prescription help.
  3. Pine Haven Homeless Shelter, (304) 255-3467 Provides housing, transportation, food, clothing and prescription help for residents only.
  4. The Carpenter’s Corner, 104 W Prince Street Operating hrs.: M, W, F, 11am-1pm (Lunch served) When available, carry-outs are provided to those who have dined in.
  5. Fishes & Loaves, (304) 252-3402 On the third and fourth Saturday of each month a box of food and clothing plus a hot meal is provided to the needy of the community. When funds are available, emergency help with utilities is provided.
  6. Commission On Aging, Meals On Wheels, (304) 255-1397: Provides food and in-house care services.
  7. Women’s Resource Center, (304) 255-2559: Provides shelter, transportation, food, counseling to women and men, limited prescription help, help finding housing and furniture when available. 
  8. Storm Haven Homeless Transitional Home, (304) 252-2081: A private recovery house (Must be sober and over eighteen) Rate is $ 275 per month.
  9. Southern WV Fellowship Home, (304) 253-1441: Alcohol/drug rehab and recovery, co-ed live in, (meals provided)
  10. Dial-A-Ride & Bus Info/ RCCA, (304) 252-6396: M-F- Beckley, Tuesday and Thursday-Sophia, Lester etc., Wednesday and Friday-Shady Beaver and Cool Ridge.
  11. Good Will Thrift Shop, (304) 256-0802: Sales income to the handicapped (18 employees including handicapped persons-also use volunteers including those who need community service. 
  12. United Way of Southern West Virginia, (304) 253-2111, Will refer individuals to appropriate agencies.
  13. American Red Cross, (304) 255-0102. Will refer Individuals to appropriate agencies.
  14. Department of Health and Human Resources, (304) 256-6930 Services include: food stamps, Medicaid, cash assistance, adult services, emergency utilities, back to school clothing, child protective services, foster care and adoption.
  15. FMRS Health Systems Inc, (304) 256-7100, Counseling for: depression, mental health issues and schizophrenia; substance abuse program for adults and teens.
  16. FMRS Crisis Center, (304) 256-7119, Detox for alcohol and drugs and help with mental issues such as anxiety. (Have 3-to-5-day stays) Hotline (304) 256-7118 or 7119.
  17. BARH (Detox Center) (304) 255-3000 or (304) 255-3598.
  18. Helping Hands Health Right Inc. (304) 253-4600, Can see a doctor, get medications, lab work, x-rays, blood tests and other tests.
  19. Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc., (304) 252-8508, Will refer to DHHR.
  20. Auxiliary to Pinecrest Hospital, (304) 222-4334, Crisis pregnancy center. Free pregnancy tests. Offer alternatives to abortion etc.
  21. Children’s Home Society of WV Beckley E.Y.E.S. (Exceptional Youth Emergency Shelter), (304) 255-0408, Emergency shelter for MRDD (Mental Retardation/ Developmental Disabilities) children for 30 days or more. Shelter includes food, medicine, clothing and transportation. Full staff around the clock.
  22. The First Tee of Beckley, (304) 254-9196, Uses the game of golf to teach life-skills to youth (ages 5-17). Can use volunteers.
  23. Hospice of Southern WV, (Eisenhower Drive) (304) 255-6404, Outpatient Facility (Cranberry Drive) (304) 250- 6040, Provides end of life care, nurses, bereavement classes, home care, transportation, prescription service and Chaplin service. Need Volunteers.
  24. Mountain Heart Foundation-Camp Mountain Heart, (304) 599-5434, Provides free weeklong for children (Age 8-18) with cardiovascular disease. The summer camp is at Cedar Lakes Conference Center. A Cardiologist is provided.
  25. Muster Project, Inc., (304) 253-7500, Provides programs aimed at preventing violence and substance abuse among children and youth.
  26. Lillian James Learning Center, (304) 253-8913, Provides classes for individuals to make the transition from school to work. Driver’s Ed. is available for individuals aged 16 and up.
  27. Raleigh County Housing Authority, (304) 255-5164, Rental assistance program for low-income people. Provides food and shelter funds. Assists people with eviction and termination notices.
  28. Fayette County Emergency Food Assistance Program, (304) 574-3733, Provides bread and other food to those in need (Monday and Friday 9 am-12pm). On the last Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 12 pm, a food box is provided. Utility and shelter funds are available for those who are in danger of eviction or utility termination.
  29. American Legion, (304) 252-2219, Disposes of damaged flags. At times it contributes money to indigents, especially veterans.
  30. Just for Kids, Inc., (304) 255-4834, Child advocate center works with CPS to interview children who may have been abused (especially sexually).

  32. Make A Wish Foundation of Greater PA and Southern WV, (304) 342-WISH, Grants wishes to children with life threatening conditions.
